Andrew O'Brien, Senior Investment Manager, Trans-Tasman Commercialisation Fund

Andrew acts as the Senior Manager for TTCF through his role as the Managing Director and Responsible Officer of Grannus Securities (AFSL 307398), a boutique Australian healthcare and biotechnology advisory firm.   At Grannus Securities, Andrew has advised public and private corporates on capital markets transactions and mergers and acquisitions, operational strategy including recently acting as the CEO of BioDiem Ltd, an ASX listed biotechnology company, as well investment advisory roles for the venture industry and family office networks.

Previous roles include Morgan Stanley’s Corpore Finance Healthcare team in New York and London covering clients in the pharmaceutical and emerging European biotechnology market.  During this period, Andrew was instrumental in completing a number of landmark transactions including the public offerings for deCODE genetics Inc, LION biosciences Inc, MediGene AG; and Actelion Inc; as well as advising Tibotec Virco on its sale to J&J and advising SmithKline Beecham on the merger of equals with GlaxoWellcome.  Upon returning to Australia , Andrew joined Deutsche Bank AG, advising on healthcare transactions such the DCA Group’s acquisition of Medical Imaging Australia, and the associated acquisition financing package.

Andrew has a Ph.D in biotechnology focusing on gene regulation in the context of seasonal asthma and hayfever, an MBA and acts as adjunct senior lecturer to the University of Melbourne teaching Technology Entrepreneurship.
